Reefer Madness (1938)

Reefer Madness is an exploitation film portraying the tragic events that ensue when high school students are lured by pushers to try "marihuana": a hit and run accident, manslaughter, suicide, attempted rape, and madness. It was originally financed by a church group and made under the title Tell Your Children. The film was intended to be shown to parents as a morality tale attempting to teach them about the dangers of cannabis use. Soon after being shot, however, the film was purchased by producer Dwain Esper, who re-cut the film for distribution on the exploitation film circuit. Convict 99: Will Hay, Moore Marriott, Graham Moffatt, Googie Withers (1938 Movie)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Convict 99 is a 1938 British comedy film directed by Marcel Varnel and starring British comedian Will Hay and Googie Withers. Incompetent Dr Benjamin Twist (Will Hay) is dismissed from his job as headmaster at St. Michaels' School (the school returns in a later film The Ghost of St. Michael's), and applies for a job in another school. Unknowingly, Twist is confused at the Labour Exchange for John Benjamin, a strict prison governor recently arrived from Australia who is applying for the vacancy at Blakedown Prison in Devon. On the way to what Twist believes is the school, he becomes drunk, and on arrival is mistaken for Max Slessor a prisoner who had escaped during a jailbreak. Designated Convict 99 and sentenced to seven years for forgery, Twist is soon discovered to be the new Prison Governor, and once put in his (dubilously) rightful place embarks on a programme to make the prison a more friendly place for the prisoners, funding it from the proceeds of a football pools win and stock market investments. Things take a turn for the worse, when one of the prisoners absconds with the entire prison funds. Twist and some of the convicts head to Limehouse, in east London to catch the errant prisoner, recover the lost funds and successfully break into a bank in order to return the funds. Cast Will Hay - Dr Benjamin Twist Moore Marriott - Jerry the Mole Graham Moffatt - Albert Googie Withers - Lottie "the Baroness" Peter Gawthorne - Sir ...

Geen Haat! - Making of "Nederlanders"

Please leave a comment under the main "Nederlanders" video! To select English, Dutch, or no subtitles, use the CC-button at the bottom of the player. A group of ordinary Dutch people volunteer to create a video that speaks out against the spread of hate in the Netherlands. This "making of" was filmed on August 7, 2010. The Netherlands is a free country with no room for hate. We stand for a country in which nobody fears to be oneself and a society in which everyone is appreciated. (Nederland is een land waar iedereen vrij is en waar geen plaats is voor haat. Wij staan voor een land waar niemand angst heeft om zichzelf te zijn en een samenleving waarin iedereen gewaardeerd wordt.) Tolerance for groups of people in the Netherlands is under pressure. For this reason, the "Geen Haat!" (No Hate!) initiative was started in June 2010, supported by a website at www.geenhaat.nl "Geen Haat!" is an independent initiative that is carried by a group of some fourteen volunteers who found each other on the Internet. The aim of the group is - creating awareness of the actual causes of feelings of hate; - encouraging political leaders to speak out against the spread of hate. Starting points of the group are: - groups of people should not be excluded nor insulted; - we speak out against the spread of hate and division; - we do not represent any specific political party, but we voluntarily and collectively subscribe to and express a common message against hate. Meet John Doe: Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck, Walter Brennan, Gene Lockhart (1941 Movie)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Meet John Doe is a 1941 comedy drama film directed and produced by Frank Capra and starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. The film, about a "grassroots" political campaign, created unwittingly by a newspaper columnist and pursued by a wealthy businessman, became a box office hit and was nominated for an Academy Award for best original story (for Richard Connell and Robert Presnell Sr.). Though the film is less well known than other Capra classics, it remains highly regarded today. It was ranked #49 in AFI's 100 Years... 100 Cheers. The film is now in the public domain. Infuriated at being told to write one final column after being laid off from her newspaper job, Ann Mitchell (Barbara Stanwyck) prints a letter from a fictional unemployed "John Doe," threatening suicide on Christmas Eve in protest of society's ills. When the note causes a sensation and the paper's competition suspects a fraud and starts to investigate, the newspaper editor rehires Mitchell who comes up with a scheme of hiding the fictional nature of "John Doe" while exploiting the sensation caused by the fake letter to boost the newspaper's sales, for which she demands a bonus equal to 8 months' pay. After reviewing a number of derelicts who have shown up at the paper claiming to have penned the original suicide letter, Mitchell and editor Henry Connell (James Gleason) hire John Willoughby (Gary Cooper), a former baseball player and tramp who is in need of money ...

The Red House: Edward G. Robinson, Judith Anderson, Rory Calhoun, Julie London (1947 Movie)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The Red House (1947) is a black-and-white psychological thriller starring Edward G. Robinson. It is adapted from the novel The Red House by George Agnew Chamberlain, published in 1943 by Popular Library. The novel was serialized in five consecutive issues of Saturday Evening Post, 10 March 1945 through 7 April 1945. Handicapped farmer Pete (Robinson) and sister Ellen (Anderson) have raised ward Meg as their own on a reclusive farm. Now a teen, Meg (Roberts) convinces her friend Nath to come help with chores on the farm. When Nath insists on using a shortcut home through the woods, Pete warns the young man of screams in the night and the terrors associated with the abandoned red house. Curious, Meg and Nath ignore his warnings and begin exploring and troubling secrets are revealed. Reviewer Dave Sindelar gives the film a positive review: "It's not perfect; it's a little too long, so you end up figuring some of the final revelations before you should, and it gets a little repetitive at times, but the strong acting and some memorable images make it worth the investment." The film is also praised as a "Murky psychological thriller with resonant settings and an emotive Rózsa score." Cast: Actor / Role Edward G. Sabotage: Sylvia Sidney, Oskar Homolka, Desmond Tester, John Loder (1936 Movie)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Sabotage, also released as The Woman Alone, is a 1936 British thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It is based on Joseph Conrad's novel The Secret Agent. It should not be confused with Hitchcock's film Secret Agent released the same year, or his 1942 film Saboteur. Karl Verloc (Oscar Homolka), the owner of a cinema, is part of a gang of terrorists from an unnamed European country who are planning a series of attacks in London. Their exact motives are not made clear. Scotland Yard suspects Verloc's involvement in the plot and assigns Detective Sergeant Ted Spencer (John Loder) to investigate Verloc, initially under cover. Spencer conducts the investigation posing as a greengrocer's helper, selling fruit and vegetables in a shop right next to the cinema. Verloc's young and beautiful wife (Sylvia Sidney) believes that her husband is a good man because he has been kind to her and her little brother, Stevie (Desmond Tester), who lives with them. However, gradually she comes to suspect that her husband may be one of the people behind the terrorist attacks. The final straw comes when her little brother is killed, along with many other people, when a bus explodes. The boy had thought that he was simply delivering a film canister, but he was unknowingly carrying a time bomb for Verloc, to be detonated in the London Underground station under Piccadilly Circus. The boy had become distracted along the way, which had delayed his delivery ...

Dyspraxie voor Volwassenen Late Late Show

70% van hen is man. Dyspraxie is een onzichtbare handicap. Dit is zowel een voordeel als een nadeel.

The Last Time I Saw Paris: Elizabeth Taylor, Van Johnson, Donna Reed, Eva Gabor (1954 Movie)

thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com The Last Time I Saw Paris is a 1954 romantic drama made by MGM.[1][2] It is loosely based on F. Scott Fitzgerald 's short story "Babylon Revisited." It was directed by Richard Brooks, produced by Jack Cummings and filmed on locations in Paris and the MGM backlot. The screenplay was by Julius J. Epstein, Philip G. Epstein and Richard Brooks. The film starred Elizabeth Taylor and Van Johnson in his last role for MGM, with Walter Pidgeon, Donna Reed, Eva Gabor, Kurt Kasznar, George Dolenz, Sandy Descher and Roger Moore in his Hollywood debut. The film's title song, by composer Jerome Kern and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, was already a classic when the movie was made and inspired the movie's title. Though the song had already won an Oscar after its film debut in 1941's Lady Be Good, it is featured much more prominently in "The Last Time I Saw Paris." It can be heard in many scenes, either being sung by Odette Myrtil or being played as an instrumental. The film is in the public domain. As World War II ends in Europe, Stars and Stripes journalist Charles Wills (Van Johnson) is on the streets of Paris, covering the celebrations. He is suddenly grabbed by a beautiful woman, who kisses him and disappears. Charles follows the crowd to Café Dhingo and meets another pretty woman named Marion Elliswirth (Donna Reed). The mutual attraction is instant and she invites him to join her father's celebration of the end of the war in Europe. Charles ...
